Radio Free Hub City (RFHC) is an independent, community-driven news organization dedicated to hyper-local journalism in Western Maryland and surrounding regions. Our mission is simple: deliver news that matters to the communities we serve.
Founded on the belief that local voices deserve to be heard, RFHC provides free, accessible coverage of government, education, public safety, local events, and community life. Whether it’s a town council decision, a school board vote, or a neighborhood fundraiser, we believe these stories have impact—and they deserve real reporting.
RFHC offers a layered approach to journalism:
Local News: Focused reporting on towns and municipalities including Hagerstown, Smithsburg and Sharpsburg.
Regional Reporting: Analysis of trends and events that affect Western Maryland.
National & Global Stories: Through radiofreehubcity.com, we provide context and coverage of broader issues, always from a local perspective.
We’re not backed by corporate interests or national chains. RFHC is locally operated and editorially independent. We strive to earn trust through transparency, accountability, and accuracy in every story we publish.
Public Service: Journalism is a tool for civic engagement and truth, not a product for deception. We will always clearly disclose advertisements and paid partnerships.
Local Accountability: We hold local leaders and institutions to account with facts, not sensationalism.
Access for All: News should be available to everyone, not just those who can afford subscriptions.
